Another day, another event!
In spring of 2022, for the first time, I had the opportunity to work with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) when they had the return of their annual fundraising Guide Dogs with a Purpose gala after COVID had prevented the event for a couple of years. The event helps to raise funds to train the puppies that will eventually become full blown working helper dogs, aiding those with reduced or no vision to be more active participants in their world. The puppies come from a breeder in Australian, and the lifetime costs for the raising and training of the puppies is roughly $50,000 per dog.
This year’s event was just as glamorous and even more successful, raising over $82,000 to help raise and train these very special puppies. Last year’s event had a challenge, that if they were able to raise more than $50,000, the group would get the honour of naming one of the new puppies who hadn’t even been born yet.
As regular readers know, I loooove working with dogs anyway, so I was very happy to have gotten the opportunity to work with the CNIB and to come back for the event again this year. The evening was full of celebration, a decent amount of tears, hard work, and lots of laughs. Indeed, a worthy event.
